Here’s the latest batch from Hope Mills.

Youth Sports Forum

June 30, 2008

From the office of Rep. Mike McIntyre…

“Congressman Mike McIntyre will be hosting a youth sports forum in Wilmington on Monday, July 21 from 6-8 p.m. at the Northeast Regional Library (1241 Military Cutoff Road). Any youth sports participant, parent, coach, or official is welcome to attend. The focus is on the entire youth sports community in southeastern North Carolina (not just New Hanover County) and will feature national and local sportsmanship initiatives that provide tools to teach sound decision making, the importance of teamwork, etc. and the role that youth sports can play in the overall development of young people’s characters.”

McIntyre is the co-Chairman of the Congressional Caucus on Youth Sports, so he’s done a lot of work in this area. And, according to the brochure:

“(There will be) presentations from: Kelly Mehrtens, Athletic Director, University of North Carolina at Wilmington, Brian Shulman, Founder and CEO of Learning Through Sports, Inc. and creator of STAR Sportsmanship and Roman Gabriel, III, Founder of Sold Out TV and Sold Out Youth Ministries.
“(There will also be) mock-interviews with WECT-TV Sports Director, Bob Bonner, hands-on demonstrations of brand new computer programming, and local and national updates on federal legislation, initiatives, and programs that impact southeastern North Carolina’s youth sports community.”
