Tournament update, Tuesday night, part two

June 30, 2009

The finish line is in sight for two teams in the District 6 Minors Tournament in Hope Mills.

Of course, it’s a little closer for some than it is for others.

Hope Mills American will face Stedman Wednesday night at 6:30, needing only a win to secure the tournament title. Stedman needs a win at 6:30, then another one in a game that would be played around 9 p.m.

Both teams have secured bids to the state tournament in Clarkton, starting on July 11.

Here’s the updated bracket:

Dixie Youth Baseball bracket

June 30, 2009

I wandered into the Hope Mills Parks and Recreation Center last night, just in time to catch the tail end of the credentials meeting for next week’s Dixie Youth Baseball Majors District 6 Tournament, set for, you guessed it, Hope Mills.

I left with a bracket, which thanks to some effort on Microsoft Paint, I can present to you here:

The official brackets for the upcoming state Dixie Softball tournaments in Wilmington are out.

Visit the Dixie Softball page to see them.

The Fayetteville South All-Stars will represent District 6 in the Angels division, while Hope Mills will carry the mantle for the district in Ponytails, Belles and Darlings.

Good luck in Wilmington, ladies.

Admit it. You missed me, didn’t you.

First, an apology.

My friend Maxey Dove, the hardest working man in Hope Mills, called me with scores this morning at 12:05. I decided to go back to sleep instead of updating the page right away.

I’ll do better next time.

So, hand on heart, here’s the updated bracket:

More on the Jr. Fire Antz

hockey

I asked for the team roster, so I could get the team in the paper for their gold medal-winning effort in the State Games recently.

Instead, J. Freeman comes through with a treasure trove of information.

Here is that roster…

The team members are: Kneeling, left to right, Hunter Phillips, Conrad Black, Mitchell McNeely, Evan Hutcheson and Dylan Mead. Middle row, CJ McKinley, Brian Duffy and Daniel Kaminski. Standing/back row, Brenden Atherton, Evan Greenhaw, Alex McLamb, Geno Luongo, Noah Allen and Nick Busiuss. Coaches, left to right, Dan Weaver, Chris McKinley (head coach) and Greg Hutcheson.

In addition, the Freemans added this note:

“We also had two other teams in the State Games. Our Bantam team (13 and 14 year olds) finished 4th in their group. We also had two Mite players (7 and 8 year olds: Nolan Tabraham and Ryan Hutcheson) combine with several players from Winston-Salem to earn a silver medal! Overall, a great weekend for association!”

And click below to read a game-by-game breakdown of their run at the State Games…
