Words of wisdom from an Olympian

September 29, 2009

From our friend Marty Bartram…

First, watch this video. (Note: pump up the volume…)

Henry Cejudo, 2008 Olympic Champion, takes time out to share his story with a small group of wrestlers in Waynesboro, Va., on Sept. 26.

Two wrestlers from Fayetteville’s Herd (the Rhinos) were lucky to be there that weekend. The audio is not outstanding so be sure and turn up the volume. You will want to hear this story.

Related Story: 2008 Olympic Champion Henry Cejudo graciously agreed to allow the Friends of North Carolina High School Wrestling ( to auction an autographed shirt and use the proceeds to help fund the 2009-2010 NCHSAA State Wrestling Championship Awards donated by the FONCHSW.

The FONCHSW provided medals to the first through sixth place finishers in the four divisions that wrestle in the North Carolina High School State Wrestling Championships.

100 percent of the sale of this ADULT LARGE autographed shirt will go towards the purchase of medals for the state championship. The link to the auction is here.

Rhino Wrestling Update

September 21, 2009

Our friend Marty Bartram sent me a few news items today.

A blog entry he wrote is first up. It’s a must read. Check it out here.

Now, on with the rest of the Rhino Wrestling news which includes a note about registration. As I’ve said before, if you’re serious about improving as a wrestler, you need to become a Rhino…

Registration for the upcoming season (begins in November) is scheduled for Oct. 1, 7, 12, 19, 28 and 29 at Jack Britt High School. Times are posted on the event dates here. Membership rates and other information can be found here.

Team Rhino exists to give boys and girls the opportunity to grow as young persons and excel in the sport of wrestling. We accomplish this by recognizing that the reasons kids wrestle include fun, friends, fitness, participation and skill development. We focus on the seven fundamentals of wrestling, drill basic and advanced techniques to instill confidence and achieve consistency while developing the foundation that produces high school state champions. Participants will have the opportunity to learn techniques from beginners to elite. No prior wrestling experience required! Your wrestler will train with opponents close to their own age and size. The only requirement is a strong desire to succeed, improve, and have fun!
