Winter weather 1, Saturday’s schedule 0

January 29, 2010

In what has to be the least surprising blog post in this site’s history, both Fayetteville-Cumberland and Hope Mills have called off Saturday’s games in anticipation of the looming winter weather.

Check back here later for make-up dates.

Until then, here’s hoping we can build a snowman tomorrow…

Here’s the press release from FCPR:

The FCPR Athletic Division has cancelled all youth basketball games and instructional basketball camps that were schedule for this Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010. Please be mindful that all basketball practices scheduled for Cumberland County School facilities will be closed Friday, Jan. 29, 2010. Please ensure that all of your patrons get this stoppage communication in advance for safety precautions. Please notify all of your support staff of this cancellation.

With the cancellation of these scheduled games, this will push the end of our basketball season out longer. Please check your facilities and book our youth basketball program and tournament dates from end of season date of Feb. 27, 2010. I will inform you of how we will make-up this lost date next week. The tournament now will start NLT March 1, 2010 thru March 13, 2010. The new date for FCPR Youth Basketball Champioship games will be March 20, 2010, site to be determine. Please stay safe and thanks for all that you do too make our FCPR Athletic Programs a huge success.

Please listen to the 306-7325 Weather Line.

Per conversation with Division Supervisors, at this time, centers are still operating on a normal schedule.

Warriors seeking players for new season

January 28, 2010

This came via e-mail from Karsten Ray…

Although football may be winding down, it is not over for the All American Youth Football League, home of the now nationally recognized Fayetteville Warriors. With the new focus and direction of the league, the Warriors are seeking those serious athletes who want to play football. After competing in two national tournaments this past season, it has been decided that the new focus of the AAYFL will be geared towards both competing here in the state, as well as nationally.

The AAYFL is currently conducting its pre-registrations for the upcoming 2010 Summer/Fall season. Ages range from 9-14 with 8 year olds being allowed to play with a waiver and 15 year olds whose birthday is after September 1st. Divisions are: 10U, 12U, and 14U. The Warriors will be competing this season in three national tournaments (pre-season, Thanksgiving, and National Championship). The cost is $80, which will help with uniforms and equipment.

For more information, call Karsten Ray at 527-4573 or Shawn Campbell at 910-527-8596 or e-mail the league at

Little Kicker Program (Ages Under 4 – Under 5)
After a successful debut, The Little Kicker Program returns for the spring soccer season.  This program is designed for our youngest players.  The program introduces new players and parents to the wonderful game of soccer.  The players and parents meet once a week, on Saturday mornings, for an hour.

The training is led by a licensed coach from the FSC staff and is assisted by some of the select team members.  A different topic is introduced each week.  These topics cover the basics of kicking, dribbling, passing and shooting.  Body movement, body awareness, balance, and mobility are encouraged as well as activities that have a ball at every player’s feet.  The training session is for one hour.  The first part of the session is spent on activities and instruction.  The last part of the session is spent on six minute games.  All players will participate in these games.

The games will be 3v3 and there will be no player substitutions.  The program is held for eight weeks at the Jordan Soccer Complex and coincides with recreation season.  The $75 fee includes one hour of instruction per week, a T-shirt and a size three ball.
