Weekend activities cancelled

Got a note from Fred Clark over at Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation.

As you might expect, all FCPR activities are off for the weekend because of the threat of wintry weather.

Got the same note from Jenny Capps at Hope Mills.

So, stay in and watch for the white stuff…

Due to the youth basketball games and instructional basketball camps that were postponed on Saturday, Jan. 30, we will move all postponed games and instructional basketball camps to Saturday, Feb. 27, as it appeared on the original schedule of games for the postponed date. The following sites will be affected by these changes posted:

Gray’s Creek Recreation Center
A. The game that was scheduled on Saturday, Feb. 27, 7-8 year youth basketball at 9 a.m. has been moved to Thursday, Feb. 25, at 6 p.m. Please inform both coaches of the Gray’s Creek Tigers and Gray’s Creek Tarheels of this change.

Anne Chesnutt Middle School
Scheduled games for Saturday, Feb. 27 from the postponed games of Saturday, Jan. 30.

All Instructional Basketball Camps
A. All instructional basketball camps will be scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 27 under the scheduled format of the instructors. This will be the last day of instructional basketball camps.

Douglas Byrd High School
No games scheduled on Saturday, Feb. 27 at your site. Please be prepared for Saturday, March 6 if needed.

FCPR youth basketball tournament is tentatively scheduled to start on Monday, March 1 and run through March 20 at a site to be determined.

Please communicate this to all of your coaches, officials, parents and players. Ensure that you will have athletic support staff for these activitie at your host site.

Once again, thank each and everyone of you for your outstanding support. Be ready for the unexpected.

Youth soccer registration

The John D. Fuller Sr. Recreational/Athletic Complex is currently accepting registrations for its “2010 Tiny Tots Indoor Soccer Camp” for Kids ages 5-8. The camp will offer instruction, training skills and techniques of dribbling, passing and shooting. In addition, there will be competitions to put the skills and techniques taught into practice. The registration fee is only $20.

Adult women’s basketball league

The John D. Fuller Sr. Recreational/Athletic Complex will be holding a meeting for all lady ballers ages 18 and older who are interested in participating in an adult women’s basketball league.

This meeting will take place on Thursday, Jan. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the John D. Fuller Sr Recreational/Athletic Complex located at 6627 Old Bunce Rd (near 71st High School). This meeting is just to find out if there is an interest in the community for women’s Basketball.

The John D. Fuller Sr. Recreational/Athletic Complex is currently accepting registrations for its “2010 Tiny Tots T-Ball League” for kids ages 4 – 6. Let us introduce your little slugger to the “Fun” -damentals of T-Ball.

Hey players, parents and coaches when your current basketball leagues are ending in March, ours are just beginning!

The John D. Fuller Sr. Recreational/Athletic Complex is currently accepting team registrations for its Youth Basketball League. Teams can register for the following ages 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-17. Registration is $250 per 10-person team or $25 per player. Rosters can not exceed 15 players.

The season will begin in March after your current seasons end. AAU Teams are welcome.

The John D. Fuller Sr. Recreational/Athletic Complex is taking applications for its 2010 Winter Adult Basketball League. Registration fee is $350 for a 10-man team. Each additional player is $35, and teams can have up to a 15-man roster. The deadline to register is Jan. 18.

Spring Lake basketball registration

The Spring Lake Recreation Department is taking registration for youth basketball for ages 3-17 through Friday, Nov. 13.

The registration fee is $15 for residents and $20 for non-residents.

A coaches meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 19, at 6 p.m. for any individuals who are interested in volunteering as a head or assistant coach. For more information, call the department at 436-0011 or 578-7317.

The John D. Fuller Sr. Recreational/Athletic Complex is currently accepting team registrations for its 2010 Winter Adult Basketball League.

Hope Mills basketball registration

The Hope Mills Parks and Recreation Department will hold registration for the 2010 winter basketball season from Thursday, Oct. 1 until Tuesday, Dec. 1. 

The fees are $30 for one child and $20 for each additional child from the same family, living in the same household. We accept cash or check as payment for fees.

At the time of registration, please provide a birth certificate, passport, or military ID as proof of age if your child/children did not participate during our 2009 fall sports season. 

The hours of registration are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5:30p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  The ages to participate in basketball are from 7-17, and there is an instructional league for ages 5-6.  

Games begin in January. Children must live in the school districts serviced by the Hope Mills Parks and Recreation Department. For more information, call 424-4500.
