Sea Dragons compete in state championships

The Fayetteville YMCA Sea Dragons wrapped up competition at the North Carolina Swimming Age Group State Championships held in Cary on Feb. 18–21. Overall, the Sea Dragons placed 17th with the girls placing 12th.

Leading the Sea Dragons was London Schumacher (13–14 girls). London placed 1st in the 1000 Free (10:17.80), 200 Butterfly (2:08.00), and Mile Free (17:22.00) and 2nd in the 400 individual medley (4:30.32) in route to winning the high point award as the top all around swimmer for the 13–14 girls.

Connor Johnson also medaled in 200 IM (2:07.90) and 100 Backstroke (58.81).

Sea Dragons compete in state championships

The Fayetteville YMCA Sea Dragons wrapped up competition at the 2010 Y State Championships held on January 15–17 with a eighth place overall finish and third in the small team category. 

Highlighting the meet were Y state champion performances by Dustin Dyer 200 Fly and Nicole Tronolone 500 Free, runner-up performances by Connor Johnson (13–14 100 Backstroke, 50 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, and 200 Backstroke), Dyer (15 and over 100 Butterfly), and the 400-yard  freestyle relay team of Dyer, Thomas Cameron, Lowell Gothard and Johnson. 

Third place finishers included Dustin Dyer (15 and over 100 Back), Devin Dyer (11–12 100 Fly), Joanna Lewis (15 and over 50 Free), Nicole Tronolone (15 and over 200 Backstroke) and Thomas Cameron (15 and over 50 Free).

Sea Dragons update

The Fayetteville YMCA Sea Dragons wrapped up their 2009 year of competition with London Schumcher competing at the USA Swimming Junior National Championships in Columbus Ohio from Dec. 10-12. London finished the meet with 3 best time in 4 events that she entered. Her times leave her ranked No. 1 in North Carolina for 13 year old girls in the 500 yard freestyle and 200 yard butterfly. The rest of the Sea Dragons capped off their 2009 at three different swim meets from Dec. 4-12. Six Sea Dragons (Schumacher, Nicole Tronolone, Dustin Dyer, Connor Johnson, Thomas Cameron and Alex Johnson) competed at the 2009 Capital Classic Meet at Pullen Park. The Capital Classic includes some of the best YMCA swimmers from the east coast. Highlighting the meet was a 2nd place finish in the mile freestyle and a 3rd place finish in the 500 yard freestyle by Tronolone. Complete results can be found here.

Five other Sea Dragons (Elizabeth Baker, Lianan Bailey, Kiana Schumacher, Charlotte Broadwell and Alexis Bailey) represented the team at the 2009 WAVE Fall Classic 12 and under championships. Each of the five swimmers recorded best times during the three day event. Complete results can be found here.

Five other Sea Dragons (Kaitlin Tanguay, Devin Dyer, Joanna Lewis, Lynae Hill and Maria McGuire) took their talents to the Rocky Mount Y Racin Rudolph Invitational. Highlighting this meet was Lewis earning a 2nd place in the Girls open 100 Freestyle. Complete results can be found here.

Schumacher to swim at Junior Nationals

London Schumacher of the Fayetteville YMCA Sea Dragon swim club travelled to Columbus, Ohio, to compete in the USA Swimming Junior National Championships from today through Dec. 12. 

USA Swimming is the official national organization for the sport of swimming in the United States and the Junior National Championships are the premiere event for athletes 18 and younger.  Schumacher, 13, will be competing in both the 200 and 400 individual medley events during the championships.

Sea Dragons take fourth in Goldsboro

The Fayetteville YMCA Sea Dragons competed in the Goldsboro Thanksgiving YMCA Swim meet on November 21-22. The Sea Dragons swam there way to an overall 4th place finish.

Leading the Sea Dragons with first place performances were Liana Bailey (Girls 11-12 100 Free and 100 Fly), Elizabeth Baker (Girls 11-12 200 Free), Thomas Cameron (Open boys 100 Fly), Devin Dyer (11- 12 boys 200 IM
and 100 Fly), Dustin Dyer (Boys Open 200 Breast), Connor Johnson (Boys Open 100 Breast, 100 Back, and 200 IM), Kiana Schumacher (10 and under girls 200 Free, 100 Back, 100 Breast and 100 IM) and London Schumacher (Girls Open 200 Free, 200 Fly, 200 IM, 100 Free, 200 Back, 200 Breast and 500 Free). Sea Dragons swim at Campbell

The YMCA Sea Dragons wrapped up a weekend of competition at Campbell University over the weekend. Leading the Sea Dragons were Dustin Dyer and Connor Johnson by securing their spots at the North Carolina Swimming Senior Championships with their respective 1st and 3rd place finishes in the 1000 yard freestyle.

Other first place finishes for the Sea Dragons were put in by London Schumacher (girls 1000 free, girls 500 free, girls 100 breaststroke), Nicole Tronolone (Girls 400 IM and Girls 100 backstroke), Kiana Schumacher (10 and under girls 50 and 100 freestyle) and Lance Johnson (6 and under boys 50 Freestyle and 25 butterfly).

The Sea Dragons next meet will be at the Goldsboro YMCA on Nov. 21-22. The complete Sea Dragons results for the Campbell meet are as follows:

Sea Dragons shine in Raleigh

The Fayetteville YMCA Sea Dragons had a strong showing at the Raleigh Swimming Association’s Season Kick – Off Meet. 

Leading the way for the Sea Dragons was London Schumacher with four first-place finishes (1000 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 100 Butterfly, and 200 Freestyle). Connor Johnson and Thomas Cameron also each had a first-place finish (100 Butterfly and 100 IM respectively).  Johnson also joined Nicole Tronolone and Schumacher in qualifying for the North Carolina Championships.

Sea Dragons registration

The YMCA Sea Dragons will be holding an open registration from 8-9 a.m. at the Fayetteville YMCA on Saturday, Oct. 31.  

Potential athletes must be able to swim one length of the pool unassisted and be willing to learn. Members of the coaching staff will be on site to answer any questions.

News from the Sea Dragons

The Fayetteville YMCA Sea Dragons wrapped up a weekend of competition at the Commotion at the Ocean swim meet held on Oct. 2-4 at UNC Wilmington. Leading the way for the Sea Dragons were London Schumacher and Nicole Tronolone, placing 1st and 2nd in the Female 1000 yard Freestyle North Carolina Senior Championship with qualifying times of 10:36.30 and 10:41.63, respectively.

Schumacher also qualified for YMCA national championships in the 200 and 400 IM, 200 Breaststoke and 200 Butterfly. The complete Sea Dragons results are below:

Sea Dragons update

The Fayetteville YMCA Sea Dragons finished the North Carolina 14 and Under Championships with two athletes earning spots on the North Carolina All-Star Zone Championship team.

Sea Dragons Connor Johnson (11-12 boys) and London Schumacher (13-14 girls) earned spots based on their performances at the state championship meet.

The North Carolina Zone Championship team is made up of the top seven swimmers from North Carolina at the following age groups: 11-12, 13–14 and 15-18.

The North Carolina team will compete against all star teams from Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Texas, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Louisiana and West Virginia at the USA swimming Southern Zone Championships from July 28 through Aug. 2.

This year’s meet will be held in Orlando, Fla., at the YMCA aquatic center. Complete Zone championship information can be found here.
